Actually, that is a common misconception. The bible, not once, does it prohibit masturbation. Most Christians point to Genesis 38:8-9 as proof. It says:
verse 8: "And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother."
verse 9: "And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother."
But read the whole chapter and you will understand that what "displeased the LORD" is not masturbation at all. This chapter lays it all bare in quite lurid detail, actually.
Let us also not forget what 1 Corinthians 6 says:
verse 6 "And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another."
Something must be explicitly written in scripture for anyone to claim it's God's word.
Jesus Christ in Matthew 5: 27-28 says:
verse 27: "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery."
verse 28: "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
So based on this scripture, if one masturbates over thoughts of his neighbor's wife then he has committed a sin. The sin of adultery, not masturbation.
This concludes today's sermon, boys and girls. Go forth and masturbate. Do not be shy. Do not fear God's wrath. God has got nothing against masturbation. But do not poke your willies in another man's wife. Do you hear me? Good.
