Importing a car, ZRA Duty question

Postby Kano » 7th December 2014, 21:55

Dear Zambia,

I'm thinking of bringing a car over from the UK.
When the car arrives in Dar ill drive it to the border.

Is it possible for me to drive the car into zambia on UK numberplates and then pay duty & taxes in Lusaka when i come to register the car?
I want to avoid dealing with those corrupt ZRA officials at nakonde.

Just curious, how will you bring your car from the UK all the way to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania? Round from north Africa through the Atlantic then to the Indian ocean?

If the car has not been final-exported from the UK I suppose you can bring it into Zambia but on customs import permit, CIP, as a visitor. Or move it in bond for clearance in Lusaka, I am not sure. You may be refered to Lusaka port office, Dedan Kimati, to final-clear the ride.

Thanks for the input, the car will be going to walvis bay, then I'll drive through Namibia to zambia.

I'm sure I'll be able to get A CIP/TIP at the border and drive the car to lusaka, pay the duty and register there.
