Security Tax

Postby Walter » 4th January 2011, 10:38

Dear Zambia,
I was very disturbed when I saw people selling there belonging at the airport the other day to pay for the newly imposed security tax when flying out. What is the National Airports Corporation up to? This is destroying our tourism industry in Zambia. What is the Ministry of Tourism and the Zambia Tourist Board doing? Somebody should do something.

Just in case you are wondering what this is about. I got this notice from Zambezi Airlines about the so-called new tax (no info about whose security we are paying for):

********************
We would like to inform you that there is a new security tax which has just been introduced by National airports to be paid at the airport before check in as follows:

USD3.00 for all domestic flights
USD5.00 for all international flights

Please note this is with effect from 01 January 2011.

Your cooperation will be highly appreciated.
regards

A more tidy way of doing this would have been to add it to ticket prices (just like other flight related taxes). Having said that, I don't know what 'Security Tax' means. Is it to pay for the new screening machinery at the airport?

I really can't understand the type of administrator we have in these offices. The notice was very short and people had already planned there holidays. We are killing our industry on our own and we shall have no one to blame but ourselves.
