Zamtel deal wins kudos from Communication Union


The National Union of Communication Workers and an economist have commended the Government for successfully picking LAP GreenN of Libya to buy 75 per cent shares in the privatisation of Zamtel. NUCW general secretary Clement Kasonde said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, that the union was delighted that after a long walk, the Government had managed to find an equity partner for Zamtel.
Mr Kasonde said NUCW’s had always been clear and that the union supported the sale of 75 per cent shares because the company had for a long time been faced with financial difficulties and were even failing to pay tax to the Government.
He said it was important that a decision was made from a business and not political point of view because the company was a business entity.
