8,000 accessing ART in Livingstone


MORE THAN 8000 people are accessing anti-retroviral therapy (ART) in Livingstone. Livingstone District director of health Elisha Chipandwe disclosed this in Livingstone that more people were coming up to access ART. Dr Chipandwe said a lot of people in Livingstone were accessing ART and urged many more others to access Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT).
He said in 2009, about 7,906 individuals accessed VCT in Livingstone and said that was encouraging considering that the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Livingstone was at 31 per cent.
Dr Chipandwe said ART would continue to mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS. He commended the Livingstone community for the role it had continued to play in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
