Cross-border traders happy with commissioning of Chipata-Mchinji railway

Lusaka , August 26, 2010, ZANIS-The Cross Borders Traders Association (CBTA) says the completion of the Chipata-Mchinji railway line will improve trade relations among the countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region.
Association Chairman General Elliot Kabinda says this is because a good transport network acts as a catalyst towards boosting trade in any country. Mr. Kabinda told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka Thursday, that without proper transportation system, many business people find it difficult to engage in cross border trade for fear of high transport costs.
He said this is why a reliable and effective transport system is needed if people are to be encouraged to engage themselves in business ventures were they can make a profit and uplift their living standards.
Mr. Kabinda noted that many small scale traders used to face challenges to transport their cargo from other countries such as Malawi and Mozambique.
