Soccer Frenzy: Chipolopolo off to Equatorial Guinea, Gabon

INTRIGUE, excitement and merriment was the mood at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium as thousands of fans watched Zambia thrash Comoros Islands 4-0 in the first 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The Zambian players led by skipper Christopher Katongo bubbled with confidence even before kick-off and looked as bright as the colour of the strip they wore – orange.
Clad in a copper and black strip, the Chipolopolo did not disappoint the expectant fans who kept their faith and hope alive even after the match was postponed on Saturday.
The stadium was filled to capacity with fans chanting the famous Chipolopolo song and exchanging rounds of the Mexican wave in anticipation.
Much to the amusement of spectators, the Dario Bonetti-tutored squad was on hand to showcase not only their professional skills but also their desire to score as many goals as possible.
