Opposition leaders back President Banda’s call for peace

SOME opposition political party leaders have backed President Banda’s calls for peace, love and unity as the country heads to the 2011 polls. Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata said peace is important for Zambians as the nation prepares for elections.
Mr Sata said in an interview in Lusaka on January 31 that he appreciates President Banda’s statement urging all peace-loving Zambians to maintain unity.
“It is true that we need peace, unity and love as we head towards the elections. Every political leader should support that,” he said.
Mr Sata said it is important to avoid manipulation in handling elections, which is a recipe for disunity.
Mr Sata said political leaders should be sincere with each other in all their dealings. He said former President Kenneth Kaunda led by example as a president who was sincere to the Zambian people.
He urged Zambians to do the right thing by electing leaders who will develop the nation.
