President Banda declares national peace tourism week


PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has declared May 15 to 21, 2011 as a “National Peace through tourism week” in Zambia as the country hosts the Fifth International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) conference. President Banda said in a proclamation statement availed to the Times in Lusaka yesterday that peace was an essential  precondition for travel and tourism and all aspects of human development , adding that travel and tourism were a global vehicle for promoting understanding, trust and goodwill among the  peoples of the world.
Mr Banda also said travel and tourism was a worldwide social and cultural phenomenon, engaging people of all nations as hosts and guests and that as such was one of humanity’s truly global activities.
