Parliament approves abolishing, creation of new ministries

Lusaka, October 19, ZANIS-Parliament has approved the abolition and establishment of new government ministries and departments by President Michael Sata. This was after the house debated the motion on the approval of government ministries and departments moved by Vice President Guy Scott on Wednesday.
This follows President Michael Sata’s decision to merge and rename government ministries and reduce the size of cabinet upon assuming office last month.
Vice President Scott reaffirmed the PF government’s commitment to reducing expenditure by downsizing the number of ministries from 23 to 19.
Dr. Scott said the move will improve service delivery and help the country save on its much needed financial resources.
Debating the motion, Kalomo Member of Parliament (MP) Request Muntanga commended President Sata for reducing the size of cabinet saying the move will play an important role in reducing government expenditure.
