Immediate past vice president of Zambia George Kunda has died.
Kunda who has been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital for the past three weeks died Monday afternoon.
Unlike most politicians both in government and a few select inÂ opposition, Kunda was not evacuated to better medical services outside the country.
George KundaÂ (born February 26, 1956 inÂ Luanshya) was aÂ ZambianÂ lawyer and politician. He was theÂ Vice-President of Zambia, in which capacity he served between 2008 and 2011. He served under PresidentÂ Rupiah BandaÂ until their party’s loss toÂ Michael Sata’s party.
The son of a miner, Kunda worked as a lawyer before entering politics. He did not compete in theÂ 2001 parliamentary election, but gained one of the eight appointed seats in Parliament. PresidentÂ Levy Mwanawasaappointed him Minister of Justice and Attorney General in 2002.
