Lands ministry embarks on upgrading land allocation system

GOVERNMENT will next month launch a computer upgrading system in the Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection at a cost of over K5 billion to make its operations more transparent and enable land owners to get title in good time. Minister of Lands Wlybur Simuusa said in an interview yesterday that the ministry’s computer system will be fully upgraded. “Once the computer system has been upgraded, this will create confidence in the public because then, the operations will be transparent and members of the public will be able to get title deeds for their land within 14 days from the day of purchase,” he said. Mr Simuusa said tenders have been floated for computer experts to install the system and the successful bidder will be announced next week. He said by the end of the year, all lands departments across the country will also be decentralised and have their systems upgraded.
