‘We won’t go down’

LEGENDARY ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers’ chances of surviving relegation might look to be over but coach Justin Chinama has vowed not to go down without a fight in the last game against title chasing Zesco United.
Just like the league title race, the last relegation spot would be decided on the final day with three teams, Wanderers, Green Eagles and Nakambala Leopards, all in danger of going down.
Wanderers occupy 17th position on 39 points with the Southern Province based sides Eagles and Nakambala in 15th and 16th positions respectively with 41 points apiece.
All the three teams play their last games away from home with Eagles visiting title chasing Green Buffaloes while Nakambala face Nchanga Rangers who narrowly survived the chop.
But despite being in the more precarious position, Chinama said the celebrated Zambian side would not give up on the slim chances of surviving relegation.
Chinama acknowledged that facing Zesco, who need a win to be crowned champions, will not be an easy undertaking but his side had everything to fight for.
“We will keep on fighting even as we remain with the last game we shall fight, we won’t give up. There is pressure we lost a game at home and we have another tough game away so you expect pressure,” Chinama said.
But a win for Wanderers would still be not enough if both Nakambala and Eagles win their respective matches.
Nakambala coach Simonda Kaunda said the team was haunted by some games they failed to win which they could have won easily.
He, however, said the team was capable of picking maximum points away to Rangers and secure top flight football next year.
“We still have hope of surviving relegation. We failed to win some games in the previous fixtures and it’s coming back to haunt us. The league is tough this season as u can see how hot the top four teams are doing. We have a chance of surviving,” Kaunda said.
Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi said anything was possible in football and that his team should not be written off on the chance to beat Buffaloes.
