THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a 20-year-old man of Lusaka’s Kanyama Compound for allegedly stealing two Bibles in Pick n Pay Store. This matter came before Magistrate Kunda Tantameni for facts, plea and sentencing yesterday.
When the matter came up, Andrew Sitali 20, understood the charge and pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
It is alleged that Andrew Sitali on November 29th 2017 in Lusaka did steal two Bibles altogether valued at K259.00 the property of Pick n Pay Zambia.
Facts before court were that Sitali had entered Pick n Pay Store and got two Bibles which he put in the basket and later got a drink. According to the complainant, Mary Chilekwa a CCTV operator at Pick n Pay, said she saw the accused pick two Bibles from the stationery section and put them in the basket and later got a drink.
Chilekwa said the accused only paid for a drink and the Bibles were nowhere to be seen. She later alerted security and he was apprehended after he had moved out of the shop.
Two bibles were found in his trousers after security persons searched him and the accused said he stole the Bibles for him to sell and raise money for transport. Magistrate Tantameni sentenced the accused to three months custodial sentence upon admission to the charge. “In your own admission of guilty I sentence you accordingly, to three months custodial sentence from the day of your arrest,” she said.
