Government says schools for examination classes will reopen on June 1 as announced by President Edgar Lungu, assuring that all necessary measures have been put in place to protect children once they return to school. Minister of General Education Mr. David Mabumba said that there shouldn’t be any fears that schools will become epicentres of Coronavirus. “If any case of Coronavirus breaks out in school, it will be dealt with using the same procedures given by the Ministry of Health. Everything is being put in place to minimise the risk of further transmission,” Mr. Mabumba said. Mr. Mabumba said teaching will resume from where teachers ended last term and exams would be set strictly on what would be taught. He stressed that examination classes are the only ones starting classes in June, adding that the a plan for the non-examination classes will be drawn based on the assessment of how the exam classes will conduct their learning. He further disclosed that about K24 million will be sent to schools for COVID-19 preparedness as they open.
