OVER 32,438 people have registered as voters in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in the six urban districts of the Copperbelt Province.

The district electoral officers for Ndola, Kitwe, Mufulira, Chingola, Luanshya and Kalulushi said in separate interviews that the voter registration exercise was progressing well.

Kitwe electoral officer Ali Simwinga, who is also the town clerk, said the district had so far recorded 11,450 voters from the first phase of the exercise in the district.

He said the waiving of the police report charge had contributed greatly to the huge turnout of people who had so far registered as voters.

“The exercise in the district is progressing well and we are happy that we have started recording significant progress,” Simwinga said.

Chingola town clerk Patrick Teleshi said the district had started recording a rise in the number of people registering as voters following the move by the police command to withdraw the police report charge.
